The Planetary Academy is an annual membership of The Planetary Society designed for kids ages 5-9. Like our adult membership, kid memberships support The Planetary Society’s mission to advance space science and exploration. However, instead of receiving adult benefits and premiums like a t-shirt and subscription to our quarterly member magazine, Planetary Academy members receive quarterly kid-friendly packages developed by the educational experts at The Planetary Society. Each package explores an intriguing world in our solar system through activities, games and surprises.

Planetary Academy membership is $89 per year with an option to renew annually. After 3 years, members will receive a certification of completion from The Planetary Academy. At that time, they may explore other membership opportunities with the Society.

Each adventure pack explores a world in our solar system in depth. Inside are images and facts, hands-on activities, experiments, games and surprises. Every three months we'll deliver a new pack featuring a new world.

The first adventure pack includes a personalized welcome letter from Bill Nye, CEO of The Planetary Society, an official membership card to The Planetary Academy, an activity book and Planetary Academy logbook, stickers, trading cards, games and surprises.

The Planetary Society was founded by Carl Sagan and leading space explorers in 1980 to engage space enthusiasts in the adventure of exploration. The Planetary Academy membership program extends this legacy to include the newest generation of explorers and provides a membership experience tailored to a young audience.

Currently, The Planetary Academy membership does not include a kids' size t-shirt. If you’d like to purchase an adult-sized member t-shirt you can do so here.

At this time, Planetary Academy memberships are available only to the U.S., Canada and Mexico, but we hope to offer this membership to more countries as the program develops.

A Planetary Academy membership supports The Planetary Society’s mission to advance space science and exploration. However, the commercial value of the materials provided exceeds the membership donation and so therefore it is not tax-deductible.

A receipt will be emailed to you at the time of purchase and can also be mailed to you via post by request. To obtain an additional copy of your receipt, email membership@planetary.org or contact us at 626-793-5100.

Your recipient will be mailed their packet via post. Some deliveries may require more time due to the ongoing impacts of the pandemic. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery.

Planetary Academy membership expires in one year based on the date you gave the membership.

Because memberships are considered donations to the Society, Planetary Academy memberships are non-refundable. To cancel future packages, please contact membership@planetary.org.

Currently, The Planetary Academy is an annual membership with an option to renew each year.

Planetary Academy memberships are intended for the original recipient and are non-transferable.
